Review: Effects of Urban Mobility on the Livability of Xalapa, Veracruz

Abstract

The proximity and accessibility of public spaces and commercial establishments influence livability in a context where housing has easy access to services without requiring excessive travel time. Therefore, it is proposed that reducing travel times to essential services would result in greater comfort and a higher quality of life.

In this context, for the aforementioned hypothesis to be reflected in reality, it is necessary to reduce travel times to public spaces and commercial establishments that provide basic goods and services. To achieve this, two conditions must be met. First, there must be a well-balanced mix of land uses—particularly commercial, mixed-use, and public-space developments—located near residential areas. Second, there must be an efficient urban mobility system that shortens travel times and reduces both the time and monetary costs associated with transportation.
