e-RUA is a scholarly journal affiliated with the Faculty of Architecture – Xalapa, Universidad Veracruzana. It is published primarily in digital format, with the option of print publication, on a biannual basis. The journal is dedicated to the dissemination of research in the fields of architecture and urbanism at both the national and international levels. Its regular content includes original research articles and book reviews of works published within the previous two years. On an exceptional basis, the journal also accepts project reports when their outcomes represent a significant contribution to the discipline.

The journal also serves as a platform for the creation, continuity, and consolidation of the University Network of Urbanism and Architecture, which brings together the four campuses where Universidad Veracruzana offers its undergraduate Architecture program, as well as related graduate programs at the specialization, master's, and doctoral levels. Furthermore, the journal promotes collaboration with other national institutions engaged in architectural and urban research and welcomes contributions from the international academic community.

e-RUA welcomes submissions from researchers, academics, and students affiliated with national and international institutions whose work addresses topics related to architecture and urbanism, as well as the specific themes announced in each call for papers. Approximately 60% of the journal's published content comes from external contributors, while 40% is produced by members of Universidad Veracruzana.

Founded in 2008, e-RUA published its first issue covering the January–June 2009 period. Since then, the journal has been published punctually at the beginning of each biannual publication cycle and has gone through two distinct publication periods. Issues 1 through 19 were published exclusively in print. Beginning with Issue 20, which was released simultaneously in print and digital formats, the journal entered its second publication period and became available online through the Universidad Veracruzana server. Throughout both publication periods, e-RUA has remained committed to serving the academic community and society by providing open access to scholarly knowledge.
