Abstract
For those of us who study urbanism, regardless of our original academic background, this book is an essential resource. It offers a multidisciplinary approach to urban studies through a collection of chapters based on the master's theses produced by students of the 2015–2016 cohort of the Master's Degree in Architecture at Universidad Veracruzana (Faculty of Architecture–Xalapa). These contributions directly address the social and spatial challenges that hinder cities from becoming more prosperous, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable. Written from the perspective of emerging researchers and supported by the guidance of their academic advisors, the chapters collectively serve as a practical guide to urban planning methodologies. The authors emphasize that the study of everyday urban issues requires mixed-method approaches—combining qualitative and quantitative methods—together with fieldwork techniques and documentary analysis that humanize the research process while clearly defining the object and temporal scope of the study.
