Abstract
Abstract:Urban Ecosystem Services (UES) contribute fundamentally to the well-being of the population and their benefits are related to many of the most pressing challenges for cities, from climate change adaptation and mitigation to the physical and mental health of citizens. This paper aims to examine how society perceives and relates to ES in urban settings through the analysis of discussions and representations in virtual social networks. Using netnography as a research tool we found the following results, the results highlight a predominantly rational and planning-focused discourse on natural resources rather than focusing on nature and people. This approach may reflect a Eurocentric and indoctrination-oriented perspective, where the priority falls on the management of natural assets rather than valuing the intrinsic connection between nature and community, highlighting the merginal or merely symbolic participation of socil stakeholders in the valuation processes of Urban Ecosystem Services.
